About 50 Southwestern Electric members are without power this afternoon after high winds pushed through Fayette County, breaking utility poles and downing lines west of Vandalia.

As of 5:30 p.m., linemen were on site, making repairs, and additional Southwestern crews were responding from Bond and Madison counties. Operations personnel expect the work to continue into early morning.

Members are cautioned to avoid all downed and low-hanging lines, as they may be energized or become energized at any time.
