Southwestern Electric crews continue to make repairs in Fayette County this morning after a tree fell into right of way north of St. Elmo, snapping crossarms from utility poles and downing several spans of line north of the cooperative’s Wrights Substation. The damage interrupted service to about 570 co-op members in Southwestern Electric’s Eastern District.
As of 10:45 a.m., linemen had rerouted power from Southwestern’s Altamont Substation, restoring service to 560 members. A dozen households were still without electricity. Crews expect the remaining repairs to take about three hours.
The outage, which began shortly after 8 a.m., initially affected members in Fayette, Shelby and Effingham Counties. It extended from Cowden south to E 2450 Avenue north of St. Elmo, and from N 1800 Street in Fayette County east to Shumway.
