Storms Interrupt Power to 300; Members Advised to Avoid Flooded Roads
Tuesday, June 12, 2018

8 a.m.

About 300 members are without service after a second round of storms passed through the area early this morning, damaging infrastructure and bringing down power lines. As of 7:45 a.m., 210 members in Fayette County near Shobonier were without power, and about 55 members in Bond County near Governor Bond Lake were without service.

Crews are currently making repairs in both areas and expect to make significant progress by noon.

Members are advised to be alert for fallen branches and to avoid downed and low-hanging power lines. Additionally, heavy rains are causing flooding in Clay, Effingham, and Fayette counties. Southwestern Electric is reminding members to “turn around, don’t drown,” and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
