    An Ameren transmission line fault is affecting Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s substations in Madison County. The fault is causing brief, intermittent outages at various locations. Crews are working to resolve the issue.
  • High Winds Present Downed-Wire Dangers Sunday, November 25, 2018
    The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Southwestern Illinois. The advisory, which forecasts gusts reaching 45 miles per hour, will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday. “Strong winds may bring down branches and trees, and snap powerlines and utility poles,” said Joe Richardson, communications coordinator for the cooperative. “We want to caution members to be alert for sagging or fallen lines, and treat every powerline as if it’s energized,” he said.
  • Automobile Accident Interrupts Power to 1,400 Madison County Members Friday, November 9, 2018
    About 1,400 Madison County members lost power shortly after 5 p.m. when an automobile struck a pole near the cooperative's Peters Substation. Crews have been dispatched to repair the damage. No estimated time of restoration is currently available.
  • Outage Affecting Members in Fayette and Effingham Counties Thursday, November 1, 2018
    Southwestern crews have sourced the outage to a damaged lightning arrestor at the cooperative's Sefton Substation. Linemen are on site making repairs and expect to restore power by 10:30 p.m.
  • Pole Fire Interrupts Power to 200 Members Wednesday, October 31, 2018
    A pole fire has damaged lines south of Pocahontas this afternoon, interrupting power to about 200 members. Southwestern Electric crews are on site making repairs. The work is expected to take about five hours.

    Southwestern Electric Cooperative is accepting applications to fill a District III director seat left vacant by the loss of longtime board member Randy Wolf of St. Elmo. In accordance with the organization’s bylaws, the cooperative’s board is responsible for appointing a member to fill vacancies on the board of directors.

    System improvements, director retirements and a core cooperative principle thriving in today’s rural communities headlined Southwestern Electric’s 80th Annual Meeting of Members, held Saturday, Sept. 8, at Greenville Junior High School in Greenville, Ill. More than 1,600 people from Southwestern Illinois attended the meeting, which included breakfast, health screenings, activities for kids, and the co-op’s business meeting and election of directors.
