    More than 3,300 Southwestern Electric members are without power after a storm brought high winds and lightning to the cooperative's service area this morning. Members in Madison, Bond, Effingham and Fayette counties are affected by the outages.

    About 60 Southwestern Electric members north of Farina remain without power today after Sunday morning’s storm snapped utility poles and tore down power lines in Effingham and Fayette counties. Joe Richardson, communications coordinator for the cooperative, said crews expected to complete repairs and restore power to the area this morning.

    About 1,600 Southwestern Electric members have seen their service restored since last night’s storm snapped utility poles and tore down power lines. As of 10:45 a.m., 85 members remained without power.

    Southwestern Electric Cooperative has received reports of a power line down across Fayette County Road 2, south of E 50th Avenue, south of Altamont. Members are cautioned not to drive over or go near downed lines. “A downed line could be energized, or become energized at any moment,” said Joe Richardson, communications coordinator for the cooperative. “All downed power lines should be avoided. Members are asked to report downed power lines to the cooperative at (800) 637-8667.
  • Co-op Crews Make Significant Progress In Restoration Efforts Sunday, June 18, 2017
    Southwestern Electric crews have made significant progress restoring power after an overnight storm interrupted service to about 1,700 cooperative members. As of 7:30 a.m., crews had restored power to 1,200 Southwestern Electric members. About 300 Fayette County members remained without service and 200 members in Effingham County were without power. The remaining outages were scattered across Bond, Clay, Madison and Marion counties.
  • Southwestern Enlists Contract Crews; Linemen Working To Repair Significant Damage Near Edgewood Sunday, June 18, 2017
    Southwestern Electric Cooperative has requested assistance from contract crews to expedite repairs in Effingham County, near Edgewood Substation. “Our crews have reported four broken transmission poles that support the lines providing power to Edgewood Sub,” said Joe Richardson, communications coordinator for the cooperative. “These are large poles that are much more difficult to replace than a distribution pole. Even with the additional linemen, we don’t expect those repairs to be complete until this afternoon.”

    Close to 1,600 Southwestern Electric members are without power this morning after strong storms swept across the cooperative’s service area. Members in seven counties are affected by the outages. In Fayette County, about 1,250 members are without service. About 200 members are without power in Effingham County and close to 100 members in Shelby County have lost power.
